Educational Therapist/Coach

The Joshua Institute, a non-profit educational organization, is seeking dynamic, spiritually gifted individuals who have a love for Jesus and a desire to share God’s Truth in all we do. Educational coaches are compassionate adults who have a desire to help struggling students succeed in school and in life. Specific professional training will be given through the expertise of the National Institute of Learning Development (NILD) and the Joshua Institute (JI). Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and are able to comply with JI’s policies and statement of faith and NILD’s certification process which can be found on the JI website.

This can be a part-time or full-time position, working with students at JI, on other school campuses as well as off-site locations. Educational coaches at the JI are independent contractors. Educational coaches work one-on-one with students who have been formally tested for learning difficulties. You will be joining a collaborative team of people who are passionate about helping students who struggle to learn, finding the root cause of the learning difficulty and use researched based tools to remediate the struggle for greater learning success.

SCOPE OF THE POSITION
Educational Therapists /Coaches provide effective educational therapy for students with learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADHD, etc. through the training received through NILD and JI. A student success plan is developed which guide each session according to the individual needs of the students. Collaboration with parents and teachers is vital for the student to reach their fullest potential.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Passion for children/youth with learning difficulties (i.e. Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADHD, mild spectrum disorders such as autism)
  • Detail oriented
  • Willing to pursue NILD Certification training
  • Knowledgeable in computers, particularly email and Word documents
  • Ability to self-evaluate and receive professional feedback
  • Good presentation and preparedness
  • Positive team player
  • Ability to be flexible
  • Patience with challenging behaviors
  • A growth mindset for yourself and your students
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a knowledge of the student through individualized planning
  • Provide Educational Coaching to clients
  • Collaborate with parents/teachers/educational professionals
  • Attend required meetings- for professional development, encouragement and collaboration

Training:
Initial training costs will be covered by the Joshua Institute. Continued training is paid for by the educational coach at a significant discount. Membership fees, supplies, national conferences, and workshops are also discounted in order to maintain professional certification at affordable rates. Initial Training Includes:

NILD Level 1

  • Formal initial and annual testing
  • Initial Understanding of Learning disabilities
  • Remediation Techniques
  • Session planning and execution of therapy/coaching
  • JI Training
  • Individualized Student Planning
  • Executive Functions

Job Data:
Hours: As contracted with families
Salary: Independent Contractor – Starts at $15 per contracted hour. Hourly pay increases with time and training.
Starting Date: Training Starts May 2020 (4 weeks online and 1-week residency at JI). New students begin mid-August.

Classroom Teacher

The Joshua Institute (JI), a non-profit educational organization, is seeking dynamic, spiritually gifted individuals who have a love for Jesus and a desire to share God’s Truth in all we do. Classroom teachers for the Academy (one of JI’s services) are compassionate adults who have a desire to help struggling students succeed in the classroom and in life. Specific professional training will be given through the expertise of the National Institute of Learning Development (NILD) and the Joshua Institute. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and are able to comply with JI’s policies and statement of faith and NILD’s certification process which can be found on the JI website.
The Academy operates as a year-round school, 4 days per week. There will be up to 8 students per class with students who have been formally tested for learning differences. You will be joining a collaborative team of people who are passionate about helping students who struggle to learn, finding the root cause of the learning difficulty and use researched based tools to remediate the struggle for greater learning success.

The classroom Teachers provide effective therapeutic teaching in a classroom of up to 8 students with learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADHD, etc. Specific training for this method of teaching is provided through NILD and JI. A student success plan is developed for each student which guide teaching plans to meet individual needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a knowledge of each student in the classroom
  • Provide therapeutic teaching in the classroom 5 hours/day, Monday-Thursday
  • Collaborate with parents/teachers/educational professionals
  • Attend required meetings- for professional development, encouragement and collaboration

Training:
Initial training costs will be covered by the Joshua Institute. Continued training is paid for by the educational teacher at a significant discount. Job Data:

  • Monday – Thursday: 5 hours per day
  • Salary: $19,233.00 (65% of full-time)
  • Additional income available through individual educational therapy -see job description above
  • NILD Level 1 May 2020 (4 weeks online and 1-week residency at JI).
  • Start date for the school year – July 27, 2020
